Went to see Cavite...er, um Eagle Eye today (spoilers)

So, one of the main characters gets a phone call. Gets threatened with her family being killed if she doesn't comply. And she gets caught up in some illegal activity.
This was a great plot when I saw it 2-3 years ago when it was an indy film called Cavite.
Ok, so the main character gets blackmailed in a different way. The second lead is a woman also caught up in the plot, her story more in line with Cavite. But did someone actually take credit for this as an "original" idea?
Even if I didn't see the indy flick, the main complaint of the movie a friend of mine had was the believeability of the super-computer antagonist.
To this point, I told him I thought it was believeable. I especially thought it was believeable because I've read 2 Marvel Comics stories involving Ultron that had the robot antagonist taking over military systems while essentially running rogue.
I actually don't mind if the plot or in this case plots were lifted from other sources. Honestly, original thought and ideas popping up are on the endangered species list. But I just think the execution of the plot has to be way better if its essentially a rip-off. And Eagle Eye just wasn't as emotional as Cavite or even as nail biting as the aforementioned Ultron comics. It had a couple of fun moments, but I'd be stretched to find more than two paragraphs to describe the flick if my life depended on it.
I think I would have liked the movie going in blank, but I kept getting a marketing push thrown at me of action and originality. And its no Die Hard and I've covered the originality part. Just another safe, ok popcorn flick.
